“When musicians conceive the sound they want to make they must also, simultaneously, conceive the movement that makes it” – Barbara Conable, founder of Body Mapping
We are a trio of string professors from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, the Royal Conservatoire The Hague and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland who specialise in the emerging field of Body Mapping.
Body Mapping is a scientifically-based somatic method that trains free movement in musicians. Exploring the structures and movements involved in playing an instrument enhances freedom in performance, reduces the likelihood of injury, and alleviates performance anxiety.
We were the first three string players in Europe to become Licensed Body Mapping Educators. We have given workshops, private lessons and in-depth training at conservatoires, orchestras, summer festivals, and at ESTA conferences for professional performers, string teachers and students.
